- The transport and roads infrastructure sector congratulates the Andrews Government following its decisive win overnight.
Roads Australia President, David Stuart-Watt, said he looked forward to continuing to collaborate with the Andrews Government through the State’s biggest construction boom.
“This election was fought on transport and infrastructure issues, with multibillion dollar policies committed to bust congestion and improve public transport,” Mr Stuart-Watt said.
“The Victorian people have spoken, backing Labor’s infrastructure agenda and we congratulate Daniel Andrews and his team on a decisive victory.
“Tomorrow, the $15.8 billion North East Link will go out to tender, there’s an extra $6.6 billion for 25 additional level crossing removals and $5 billion for the Melbourne Airport Rail Link.
“The infrastructure pipeline has never been so hot and there is now a big task ahead to ensure we have the right people on the right projects with the right skills.
“We welcome yesterday’s announcement of an additional 800 places to continue heavy vehicle driver training and education programs.
“However, there needs to be a concerted examination of what skills we need across the entire infrastructure pipeline – and create dedicated programs to address any shortages.
“We also need to make sure that traffic flows as smoothly as possible during the construction boom.
“That’s why we will work with the Andrews Government and our partners in the construction industry to make sure speed limits through construction zones are lifted as soon as it is safe to do so.
“Both sides put transport front and centre of the campaign.
“We also congratulate Matthew Guy on a hard fought election and we will continue to cooperate with the Victorian Opposition moving forward.”
