Dr Charles MacDonald

Dr Charles MacDonald with Mrs Sylvia MacDonald

Dr Charles MacDonald is widely recognised as a leading figure in the Australian civil construction industry in both the private and public sectors. He has worked as a chartered civil engineer for fifty years, delivering road infrastructure in Australia and in overseas locations including the UK, Hong Kong and Saudi Arabia.

Over the past twenty-five years, Dr MacDonald has specialised in the design, construction and operation of major urban motorway tunnel projects. These have included most of the major motorway tunnels delivered across Australia, including the Sydney Harbour Tunnel, Melbourne CityLink’s Domain and Burnley Tunnels, the Airport Link in Brisbane and each of the tunnel stages of the WestConnex project in Sydney.

Dr MacDonald’s understanding and experience of the whole of life cycle of project delivery means his expert advice is now regularly sought by client organisations, contractors, legal professionals and other major organisations involved in the development, delivery and operation of major transport projects.

In his senior corporate roles over recent decades, Dr MacDonald has also maintained a steadfast commitment to sharing knowledge and experience by mentoring emerging professionals in the industry.

This is reflected through his participation in Peer Review Groups that provide advice and support to those now engaged in the delivery of transport infrastructure, his leading contribution to developing technical specifications for tunnelling works in Australia and lending his expertise to the development of tunnel air quality, ventilation and fire and other safety systems now used across Australia.
