Three national transport leaders have been elected to the Roads Australia Board, marking an historic moment in the industry body’s 70-year history.
BMD Group CEO Scott Power, Clayton Utz Partner Alison Close and Transurban Acting Group Executive for Victoria Nicole Green have been elected to the RA Board, following the first ever electronic ballot for the organisation.
RA Chair Aneetha de Silva welcomed the new Board Directors, saying it marked a significant milestone for the organisation.
“RA is undergoing an ambitious transformation agenda which builds on its strong legacy as an industry leader,” Ms de Silva said.
“The Director election process is the second major chapter in this process of change, following our members’ endorsement of our new Constitution at our recent AGM.
“We were delighted with the level of interest in the Board positions and I thank our members who have engaged in this process, including the candidates who put themselves forward for election.”
The election came after the RA Board sought nominations for three vacant Director positions – one position each from Tier 2 contractors, legal consultants and transport operators.
Ms de Silva said the new Directors significantly boost the Board’s industry representation and diversity of views.
“RA has a membership base that represents the full depth and breadth of the transport infrastructure supply chain,” Ms de Silva said.
“We’re delighted to now be able to truly represent all those different voices at the Board table.
“I am also proud to have delivered on our commitment to achieve 50 per cent gender diversity on the Board within 15 months of announcing that ambition.”
Scott Power is the CEO of Australia’s largest privately-owned civil contractor, BMD Group, and boasts 29 years of experience in the civil construction industry, having been an Executive Director at BMD since 2009 and CEO since 2020.
Alison Close has been a construction lawyer for 18 years and is a Partner at Clayton Utz. She comes to the RA Board with a strong understanding of the challenges facing the transport and infrastructure sectors, and has worked closely with the Victorian Government in the delivery of major projects, including the West Gate Tunnel Project, Metro Tunnel Project and North East Link Project.
Nicole Green was appointed Acting Group Executive – Victoria for Transurban in October 2023. Nicole, who reports to Transurban’s CEO, joined the company in January 2022 as Group General Counsel, and has played an integral role in some of the organisations’ biggest projects. Prior to Transurban, Nicole spent 24 years at law firm MinterEllison where she was a Partner in the Projects, Infrastructure and Construction Division.
