“We’re in the middle of a golden run of major transport infrastructure projects that is not only creating jobs in the construction sector, but huge flow-on benefits across the state and national economies,” says Roads Australia President, David Stuart-Watt.
“More importantly, the current pipeline of projects puts us in a better position to meet the mobility challenges that will inevitably come with population growth.”
Mr Stuart-Watt said projects like the F6 extension and Albion Park Rail Bypass were long overdue, while the $3 billion commitment to the Metro West rail project was a major win for Sydney’s west that would complement WestConnex by further easing road congestion.
“We also applaud the Government’s funding of key arterial routes in Sydney south and south-west, and the continued commitment to the Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan – both of which will help ease congestion and improve journey reliability in key growth areas of Sydney,” Mr Stuart-Watt said.
“The $600 million boost to road safety funding is also very welcomed, particularly the proposed investment in road infrastructure upgrades on country roads.
“We have a long way to go to reach our National Road Safety Strategy goals, so any investment in safer infrastructure is a good one.”
Mr Stuart-Watt noted it was important that governments everywhere committed to transparent, long-term pipelines that gave industry the confidence to invest in capacity and deliver innovative, best-value outcomes.
