Industry vows to work with Government to keep Big Build on track

Following the Premier’s announcement on how stage 4 restrictions affect businesses and workplaces, Roads Australia and the construction industry will continue to work closely with the Victorian Government to ensure essential transport infrastructure is delivered safely.

“Roads Australia members and the Major Transport Infrastructure Authority (MTIA) have already done an enormous amount of work to respond to the COVID challenges, implementing a wide range of rigorous measures across construction sites and maintaining a constant dialogue to overcome any challenges,” RA CEO Michael Kilgariff said today.

“That is why the safety record in the transport infrastructure industry has been so good over the COVID-19 period.

“We are pleased the exemptions continue to recognise this joint effort.

“As the Premier has stated many times, major infrastructure delivery is a critical creator of jobs and driver of the State’s economy, and we must do all that we can to maintain the momentum of the Big Build.

“While COVID-19 has led to some project delays, it has also initiated a massive Federal/State infrastructure spend.

“Industry is working closely with government and agencies like the MTIA to ensure these economic stimulus projects can be implemented quickly and managed safely.

“It’s now incumbent on our industry to re-focus its efforts to ensure the current Government exemptions remain in play and jobs remain safe.

“We will continue playing our part to ensure this happens.”
