Record investment in roads and infrastructure spending applauded

May 1, 2018 – The road and transport industry has welcomed the Victorian Government’s record investment in infrastructure spending in the 2018/19 State Budget.

“This year’s State Budget injects $4.3 billion into our state-wide road network and a further $1.9 billion in our public transport network,” Roads Australia Chief Executive Ian Webb said.

“This includes fast-tracking planning for the North East Link, further upgrades for the Monash Freeway and Mordialloc Bypass, a suburban roads package and more than $900 million towards making our regional roads safer.

“We are also continuing to see a heavy investment in improving our public transport network, both in Melbourne and regional Victoria with upgrades to the Shepparton line, the duplication of the Cranbourne line, more new trains and a range of safety and security initiatives.”

“It is essential that the Victorian Government continues to build a world-class integrated transport network for our state, with a strong pipeline of work focused on building the right projects at the right time.”

Mr Webb also welcomed the Victorian Government’s expansion of the Major Projects Skills Guarantee to support more women, at risk youth and Indigenous Australians.
