Victoria’s Level Crossing Removal Project marked the removal of its 59th crossing this week with the completion of works delivered by RA members Laing O’Rourke and Jacobs.
A new 394-metre rail bridge has now been completed at the site, enabling traffic to flow freely and removing a level crossing that was notoriously dangerous, with 14 near misses over the past decade involving both vehicles and pedestrians.
The completion of the works will provide safer and more efficient journeys for the 20,000 vehicles that use Hallam Road each day.
Construction work is now focused on completing the new Hallam Station, which is expected to open early next month. The new station facilities will incorporate a new forecourt and parking facilities, as well as safer infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians using the new station precinct.
