Sydney’s M4 and M8 Link set to open early

One of the final major components of Transurban’s WestConnex project – the 7.5km tunnels linking the M4 at Haberfield and the M8 at St Peters – will open to traffic on 20 January – two months ahead of schedule.

The new link is expected to save users around 40 minutes on a journey between Western Sydney and Sydney Airport, allowing them to bypass 52 sets of traffic lights.

The M4 and M8 link is the third stage of the $16.8 billion WestConnex project being delivered in a partnership between the NSW Government and the Federal Government.

Sustainability has been a key focus for the project, with the tunnels using sustainable materials and energy efficient technology, and the project complemented by 23km of new and improved cycleways and walkways.
