From the CEO

It’s been a historic week as RA elected Aneetha de Silva as its first woman President and welcomed a new Board leadership group at our AGM in Sydney.

I am greatly looking forward to working with Aneetha and the RA Board as we embark on the next phase of RA’s modernisation.

As our new video makes clear, the nature of transport infrastructure and services in Australia is rapidly changing. For RA, this means we must keep pace with those changes, and ensure we work with our powerful membership to shape reforms that will:

  • help decarbonise our transport networks;
  • effectively deploy technology-based solutions to improve productivity and safety, and;
  • ensure transport infrastructure and services are delivered by a skilled and diverse workforce that shares the community’s aspiration for stronger, more liveable communities.

Last week’s AGM also saw the public release of RA’s Annual Review 2022, which demonstrates just how active RA has been across our events program, policy activities and industry-leading Fellowship and Emerging Leaders programs.

Among the highlights noted are:

  • expanded event offerings, with new events addressing contemporary industry priorities;
  • producing industry-leading research reports on decarbonisation and making buses a more attractive mode of public transport;
  • launching RA’s new website and branding;
  • delivering our largest RA Fellowship program ever, with 58 per cent women participants;
  • hosting our largest-ever John Shaw Dinner; and
  • expanding RA’s reach across the Tasman with our first industry visit to New Zealand.

As the Annual Review shows, the changing nature of transport offers a plethora of opportunities for RA and its members. I look forward to working with the Board, the RA team and our members to help realise those opportunities and create a more resilient, productive and diverse transport sector.
