Work has begun on the Beams Road Level Crossing Removal Project, following the awarding of the main construction contract to Bielby Hull Joint Venture late last year.
The project has funding support from all three levels of government: $56.24 million from the Commonwealth Government, $138.76 million from the Queensland Government and $40 million from Brisbane City Council.
Beams Road experiences congestion at the level crossing in Carseldine, while being an important corridor for people across northern Queensland.
Construction of the four lane overpass will commence later this month, including active transport connections and an important separation of road and rail traffic.
The project is expected to support an average of 185 direct jobs with Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads Bart Mellish highlighting the congestion busting benefits for local road users.
“There has been significant community interest in the Beams Road rail level crossing removal project as a solution to ease traffic congestion and provide a smoother, safer and separated journey for road and rail commuters through Carseldine,” Minister Mellish said.
“The changes will also provide safer access to and from the Carseldine station and improve congestion in the area as well as provide better pedestrian and pushbike path access.”
