Institute of Applied Technology – Construction opens in Western Sydney

The newly built $80 million Institute of Applied Technology – Construction (IAT-C) facility in Kingswood Western Sydney, was officially opened and unveiled today.

RA patron, CPB Contractors, is a founding partner of the IAT-C, which is a partnership between industry and educators (TAFE NSW and Western Sydney University) to co-create quick-to-market, relevant courses that cater to current and future job needs.

Rob Monaci CPB Contractors General Manager NSW & ACT joined Steve Whan, NSW Minister for Skills, TAFE and Tertiary Education, at the ribbon cutting event, also attended by foundation partner representatives from TAFE NSW and Western Sydney University.

Speaking at the event this morning, Rob explained what sets this model apart for students and industry.

“What makes this partnership so unique is that the construction expertise that goes into these courses isn’t from CPB Contractors alone, but from construction businesses and suppliers of every size and from every sector. It’s a model that all of the industry can influence, helping build relevant skills for the jobs that need to be filled today, and tomorrow,” Mr Monaci said.

“Together, we’ll fast-track the industry’s ability to build capacity and capability, which is essential as the construction pipeline evolves and we prepare more Renewables projects.”

The new campus features state-of-the-art facilities, including a drone-room, digital engineering labs, a construction sandpit and large workshop spaces to accommodate the construction of full-scale buildings that can be used in carpentry, plumbing, and electrotechnology training.

Learners across Australia have already enrolled in more than 10,000 online micro-skills or micro-credentials and face-to-face classroom learning that covers topics such as:

  • 2D CAD Drawings and 3D Models
  • Building Information Modelling (BIM)
  • Commercial & Contract Management in Construction
  • Contract Administration
  • Project Management
  • Frontline Leaders in Construction
  • Procurement and Commercial Management
  • Reality Capture Technologies
  • Rob hails the courses as game changers and shares that they have already proven attractive for people already in construction as well as newcomers to the industry.
