The ARRB Senior Project Manager was recognised this week for his significant and sustained contribution to the development of expertise across a range of pavement technology topics.
In accepting the Award at RA's Christmas lunch in Melbourne, Kieran paid tribute to his mentors, Max Lay and John Metcalf – themselves both winners of Roads Australia awards.
Kieran also exhorted those present to do whatever they could to ensure the next generation was equipped with the technical and softer skills required to meet future challenges.
The 2013 Award recognises Kieran's work on pavement, materials and asset management research projects for Austroads, State road agencies, the National Transport Commission, industry and the OECD.
In particular, he has been a member of various Austroads and industry-based project steering committees and reference groups, and OECD, TRB, ACI and REAAA Committees, and in 2003 received an Austroads Achievement Award in recognition of his contribution to that organisation's activities over the previous 20 years.
Earlier this year Kieran became only the third Australian to be awarded Honorary Membership of the Road Engineering Association of Asia and Australasia.
