There have been some significant transport project announcements in Western Australia in recent days – and RA members are will be at the forefront of their delivery.
A contract has been awarded to the Midland Junction Alliance to design and construct METRONET’s new Midland Station. The Alliance incorporates RA members McConnell Dowell, Georgiou Group, Arcadis Australia, and BG&E. The new station will be located closer to the Midland CBD and be more accessible for the community.
As well as demolishing the existing station and replacing it with a new state-of-the-art facility, the works will also deliver 12-stand bus interchange, a new multi-storey car park with more than 600 bays, a north-south pedestrian overpass, passenger toilets, eight lifts, stairs, a kiosk and secure parking for 96 bicycles. Construction is expected to begin later this year.
Meanwhile, an iconic new Swan River Bridge will be delivered as part of a boost to the Perth City Deal announced this week. Jointly funded by the Federal and WA Governments, the new $100 million bridge will be delivered by a consortium that includes RA members Seymour Whyte and WSP Australia.
The new bridge will be six metres wide and significantly higher than the current Causeway Bridge, with dedicated pedestrian and cyclist lanes providing safer access for more than 1,500 cyclists and 2,000 pedestrians who use the current bridge each day.
