NT Budget expands investment in roads

This week’s Northern Territory Budget included a record investment in road infrastructure across the NT, with a major focus on sealing roads to support economic activity and enhance safety for residents and visitors to the Top End. All

NT Treasurer and Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics, Hon. Eva Lawler, said:

“Better roads across the Territory means a better economy, it means safer trips to work, and it means more reliable access for regional communities. The Territory is leading the way in the roads and transport infrastructure sector and this is backed up by the continuous support from the Commonwealth.”

The Budget invests in upgrades and sealing for key routes across the NT, including:

  • Tanami Road – $178.1 million
  • Central Arnhem Road $165.6 million
  • Buntine Highway – $114 million
  • Carpentaria Highway – $90.4 million
  • Kakadu National Park roads – $67.3 million
  • Outback Way – $42 million
  • Arnhem Highway – $10.7 million

The NT Budget also includes $108 million to support delivery of the Berrimah Road and Tiger Brennan Overpass, as well as a package of $214.8m to support the upgrade of gas industry roads.
