Birwa Shaly is an accomplished engineering leader with over 13 years of experience in the development and delivery of transport infrastructure in the public sector. A Chartered Professional Engineer with an extensive catalogue of projects, Birwa has played a pivotal role in shaping Victoria’s transport network.
In 2023, Birwa returned from the United Kingdom, where he spent two years as Head of Design, Engineering, and Assurance for Sustrans, overseeing project delivery and technical development for the National Cycle Network in Scotland. He also led a department that provided guidance on local placemaking and urban design initiatives.
Most recently, Birwa completed a secondment as Associate Director – Road Program, where he developed long-term investment strategies for road infrastructure projects. Eager to immerse himself in this 12-month Roads Australia Fellowship, Birwa looks forward to collaborating with and learning from fellow industry leaders.
