Victoria’s LXRP removes 66th crossing

Victoria’s Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) has successfully removed its 66th level crossing, with the new underpass at Robinsons Road, Deer Park opening months earlier than originally scheduled.

A 10-day road closure enabled crews to expedite the schedule of works, which included the excavation of 60,000 cubic metres of rock and soil, construction of a new road underpass and rail bridge using 430 tonnes of steel and seven bridge beams weighing 80 tonnes each.

Works are now continuing to improve local walking and cycling connections with new shared use paths, landscaping and tree planting around the site. Works are also proceeding on nearby Mt Derrimut Road level crossing removal, with the project on track to be completed by 2024. This will be the final crossing removal on the Geelong and Ballarat line between Deer Park and the Melbourne CBD.

The LXRP is removing 85 level crossings across Melbourne by 2025.
