Bruce was Commissioner of Main Roads in NSW from 1981 to 1986, and President of the Australian Road Federation (the forerunner of Roads Australia) for 10 years from 1988.
Bruce was in charge of Main Roads when the ground-breaking Sydney Harbour tunnel contract was drawn up and let, and subsequently became a champion for innovative road funding models, including toll roads and PPPs, to help alleviate Sydney’s congestion problems.
He was afforded Life Membership of the then Australian Road Federation in 1998 and until very recently remained an active participant at Roads Australia events.
On behalf of the Board and members of Roads Australia, we pass on our sincere condolences to Bruce’s wife Beryl and his family and many friends.
The family is planning a private funeral.
