The first vehicles have started using the new $20 million Cam River Bridge, with the westbound lane of the Bass Highway the first to be switched.
Traffic heading west towards Wynyard on the Bass Highway at Somerset has been moved permanently onto the new bridge as of 6:00am on Thursday 25 January 2024.
Following the redirection of westbound traffic, night works will be undertaken to widen the approaches to the new Cam River Bridge so eastbound traffic can also utilise the new infrastructure in the coming weeks.
Once this has been completed, traffic heading towards Burnie will be moved to the new bridge, allowing the old bridge to be demolished.
The project is expected to be completed on time and on budget with more information set to be shared by Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Michael Ferguson, in the coming weeks.
