Decarbonising infrastructure with technology

Nearmap has released a new white paper, Decarbonising Australia’s built world with technology, which reveals construction, engineering and property business leaders believe tech can help reduce emissions, but adoption is comparably low.

With the infrastructure sector, including Australia’s built environment, responsible for a substantial percentage of our carbon emissions, there is a strong belief across the industry that technology will play a crucial role in supporting the decarbonisation process.

Following the election of the Albanese Government the legislative environment has shifted with a strong focus on meeting 2050 net zero targets and a 43 per cent emission reduction target by 2030.

The private sector is willing and eager to support measures that lead to a more sustainable future. To find out more about the sector’s view on this process, Nearmap completed a survey of more than 500 business leaders, of which 250 were from the construction, engineering and property sectors.

The survey showed a unanimous belief in the importance of technology in meeting sustainability goals, however there is a clear disconnect between use of technologies including location intelligence and AI, and positive attitudes towards their impact.

The report includes important insights on the barriers to achieving carbon emission reduction targets through the eyes of senior business leaders.
