Roads Australia’s recent Melbourne Industry lunch has seen senior leaders from both industry and government gather to receive an update on the Victorian Government’s transport priorities from the Deputy Premier and Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, Jacinta Allan.
The Deputy Premier delivered a keynote address with a strong focus on the role collaboration between the public and private sector plays in breathing life into government policy. This includes in innovative spaces, with the Victorian Government placing a strong emphasis on sustainability, recycled material use and uptake of circular economy principles.
As the Victorian Government continues overseeing the largest transport infrastructure investment in the state’s history, the Deputy Premier outlined the importance of cross-jurisdictional collaboration and fostering an environment where major infrastructure projects are designed and planned with a strong understanding of industry capacity and not in competition with other states.
Following machinery of government changes after the 2022 Victorian election, transport and planning have been integrated into a singular Department. This change is allowing integration to take place between transport and land use to deliver better and fairer outcomes, including expanding plans to locate new housing close to vital transport connections.
As the longest serving female Minister in Australian history, the Deputy Premier described her journey as a public figure, encouraging young people to consider a career in politics and giving back through public policy.
RA would like to thank Stantec for partnering with RA to deliver this event.
RA’s next Melbourne Industry lunch will be held on October 19 with Major Road Projects Victoria CEO, Duncan Elliott. Tickets will go on sale next week.
