RA member CIMIC Group’s CPB Contractors is delivering NSW’s first light rail project to feature grass tracks.
The initiative will see around 1.3 kilometres of grass and ground cover laid between and alongside tracks on the Parramatta Connects Stage 1 Parramatta Light Rail project.
As well as offering clear benefits in terms of community amenity, the installation of grass tracks provides a range of enhanced sustainability outcomes that include carbon reduction, reduced operational noise, reduction of urban heat and improved biodiversity.
Green ground and grass cover – which used 81 per cent less concrete than a standard embedded track – is set to be used on 10 per cent of the Parramatta Light Rail alignment.
