NRW Contracting Pty Ltd has been named as the preferred proponent for the design and construction of two new interchanges on the Reid Highway.
The total scope of the project is expected to cost $225 million, funded through an equal split between the Australian and Western Australian Government.
The project will see two interchanges constructed to replace the existing interchanges at Altone Rd and Drumpellier Dr/Daviot Rd. Additionally, Reid Highway will be modified to pass over Altone Rd with a new bridge constructed to allow Drumpellier Dr/Daviot Rd to pass over Reid Highway.
In order to reduce the impact of new bridge construction on local residents, existing spaces around each intersection will be utlisied.
A new bridge and underpass will be constructed, allowing for cyclists and pedestrians to use a shared path network running from West Swan Rd to Malaga Dr.
WA Minister for Transport Rita Saffioti said the upgrades will reduce congestion and support growing suburbs in Perth’s North-East.
“The Reid Highway Interchanges Project will significantly improve traffic flow along this critical freight route and follows the removal of the last single carriageway section of the highway in 2020 and the upgrade of Tonkin Highway between Morley and Muchea,” Minister Saffioti said.
“With construction of the METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook Line making great progress and the Tonkin Gap Project completed in December, our government is delivering the infrastructure that will support the significant growth expected in Perth’s north-east in the coming years.”
Construction is expected to begin this financial year ahead of expected completion in early 2026.
