Three teams have been shortlisted for two tunnelling contracts available for the first stage of Victoria’s Suburban Rail Loop project – SRL East.
This first stage will deliver 26km of twin tunnels and 6 new underground stations between Cheltenham and Box Hill, with trains expected to be running by 2035.
The Victorian Government has announced the three shortlisted teams – all of which have significant experience delivering tunnel infrastructure on transport projects in Australia and internationally – are as follows:
- CIMIC Group’s CPB Contractors, Ghella and Acciona Construction Australia;
- John Holland and Gamuda Australia; and
- Webuild and GS Engineering and Construction Australia
The first contract will be awarded next year for twin tunnels between Cheltenham and Glen Waverley, with the second package to construct tunnels between Glen Waverley and Box Hill to follow.
It is expected that tunnelling works will commence in 2026.
