Supporting resilient regional roads

Roads Australia has appeared at a public hearing in front of the House of Representative’s Committee on Regional Development, Infrastructure and Transport, for the ‘Inquiry into the implications of severe weather events on the national regional, rural and remote road network.”

The opportunity to appear before the committee follows RA’s public submission earlier this year, after consultation with RA members on what is required to support the development of a more resilient road network for the future.

RA’s Royce Christie, Director – Policy, and RA Board member Sergio Cinerari attended the hearing in Canberra to expand on RA’s recommendations and answer questions from Members of Parliament.

Conversations focused on rethinking approaches to pavement design, new methods of data collection, increased collaboration across jurisdictions and strategic maintenance funding.

The committee will continue undertaking public hearings before developing a final report, with recommendations, to table in the Commonwealth Parliament.

A full transcript of RA’s appearance can be found here.

L-R: Royce Christie, Director – Policy, Roads Australia; Sergio Cinerari, Head of Business, Downer.
