Tributes have poured in from across the nation following the passing of the founder of Western Australia’s Georgiou Group, Spiro Georgiou, at the age of 88.
Mr Georgiou (1935-2023) was born in Greece before emigrating to Australia at the age of 18.
In 1977 Mr Georgiou founded Direct Drainage and in 1993, he launched a precast company called Geocrete. In 1994, they acquired Roadpave and two years later the three companies merged to become Georgiou Group, a company that recorded over $1 billion in revenue in 2022-23.
Georgiou Group is recognised as one of the nation’s leading private civil and construction companies and has expanded beyond WA, with offices in Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
Mr Goergiou is survived by his wife of 63 years, Agnoula, four children, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
